Congratulations to undergraduate Wang Jue for publishing an academic paper
Undergraduate Wang Jue has published an article titled “Protein-small molecule binding site prediction based on a pre-trained protein language model with contrastive learning” in the Journal of Cheminformatics. This study presents a protein-small molecule binding site prediction model (CLAPE-SMB) based on a pre-trained protein language model and contrastive learning, and organizes the protein-small molecule binding site dataset UniProtSMB. CLAPE-SMB achieved an MCC of 0.699 on the UniProtSMB test set, outperforming other models. Compared to structure-based prediction methods, CLAPE-SMB is particularly suitable for proteins that lack precise experimental structures, such as intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs). This provides new insights into protein-small molecule interactions and offers new possibilities for drug design. For detail: https://doi.org/10.1186/s13321-024-00920-2

Congratulations to PhD Student Zhang Yuming for His Achievement in the AI4S Cup!
Recently, PhD student Zhang Yuming won the first prize in the "AI4S Cup – Predicting the Relationship Between Enzyme Function and Mutant Sequences." This competition was jointly organized by the Beijing Academy of Science and Technology and the Shenzhen Advanced Technology Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, aiming to promote the application of artificial intelligence technology in the field of bio-manufacturing. The competition focused on the targeted modification and optimization of RhlA, a key enzyme in the production of biosurfactants. Participants were required to use machine learning and deep learning techniques to construct accurate models for predicting the relationship between RhlA sequences and their functions. Zhang Yuming successfully developed a highly accurate predictive model by combining methods of key residue selection and protein language models, showcasing the potential of artificial intelligence in bio-manufacturing. This achievement not only affirms Zhang Yuming's individual capabilities but also reflects our laboratory's ongoing exploration of applying computational methods to bioengineering challenges. We hope this success will provide new insights for future research and advance the development of bio-manufacturing technologies.

Ph.D. Student Zhang Rong achieved fourth place in the women’s half marathon category at the 2024 Tsinghua University Campus Marathon, ranking first among female participants
In the 2024 Tsinghua University Campus Marathon, doctoral student Zhang Rong, from the 2018 cohort, performed remarkably, achieving fourth place in the women's half marathon category with a time of 1 hour, 44 minutes, and 22 seconds. Among current students, she ranked first in the women's category, simultaneously setting a new personal best (previously PB 1:48:22). It's truly exceptional for a non-athlete, burdened with heavy research pressures, to achieve such results. Zhang Rong expressed, "Marathons rely on strong perseverance, unwavering belief, and the relentless pursuit of challenging and surpassing one's own physical limits. During my time at Tsinghua, the university's spirit of sportsmanship flowed through my veins. Competing alongside outstanding individuals brings immense happiness and enjoyment. Continuous self-improvement and moral integrity are essential. I hope every student can develop a passion for sports and experience the allure of competitive athletics. Balancing research and personal development, maintaining such resilience, and embracing more challenges are key to growth."
